Acupuncture

One of my favourite from Season 1.

did Mai intend for him to sit there with blood he couldn't reach, as conditioning, or did she intend something else? Did she think that her art could affect the desire itself, or his ability to control the desire, and how sophisticated was her (and Nick's) grasp of the difference?

Interesting question. I don't think the conditioning would work. Nick would probably consider it too dangerous since Mai would need to remove the needle at one point. Not a good idea to do that to a starved vampire. Therefore it might be the belief that Mai's art might control Nick's desire (not that I think that would work either).

"You are what I am," Lacroix insists, demonstrating vividly that what he is, is a murderous monster. Why Lacroix thinks that any of this will persuade Nick, rather than driving Nick yet further away, I can't imagine.

He finds Nick rejecting his gift again. And Mai knows what Nick is. In addition to the anger derived from the rejection, in his view, he deals with another of Nick's indiscretions. That he commits an indiscretion himself by leaving a witness is another story. I'm not sure what he thinks in regard to that. He might also count on Nick's own hunger to rise while he watches Lacroix draining someone. Janette often tends to look hungry when she watches Nick draining someone, and so does Lacroix. Apparently this does not work in Nick's case. So maybe Lacroix left the witness for Nick to deal with?
By the way, I would say "handsome devil" is a more fitting description than "murderous monster". I think Lacroix looks particularly dashing in that evening attire. :)
