"This is the episode in which "they cut [Natalie's] budget all to hell" and she has to "lose two of the attendants off [her] shift.""
This is one of those nice touches that flesh out the background of FK, even though we don't see the attendants in question. Grace has yet to appear, of course; and the addition of her character, albeit in so few episodes, provided Natalie with someone to talk to at work in scenes without Nick and/or his partner. However, there must have been more staff at the Coroner Building. One of the few episodes in which they appear, though, is "Only the Lonely". There is a nice little crowd in the birthday scene with the cake and gift (though we don't know their names, except for Eddie).
The inclusion of the occasional uniformed officer or detective with a speaking part similarly helps to give the impression of a properly staffed precinct. My impression is that there were more of these characters in Season One than later; and it's a pity. A recurring cast of bit players (or even just familiar faces staffing the background) would have helped.
Oh, for a decent budget for FK, never mind the Coroner's Office!
