I find the parallel to Hans Victor very striking in this scene. Both, Natalie and Hans are helping Nick to become mortal again. Then, when fate strikes, both ask Nick to bring someone dear to them across. And when he refuses, both use their helping him as leverage.

In Let to man tear asunder Nick remains steadfast, only "provides" the heart that Hans needs to perform the transplantation. In I will repay he gives in against his better judgement.
