"Dead Air" isn't one of my favorites, either, but it is an episode in which I see more now than I did when I first encountered it. The story's parallels do not entirely succeed, but, for myself, I think that the writer's goal was worthy.

I interpret from the episode that the Dr. Noble character feels that she has become an entertainer, not a "real doctor," and that this employment as an entertainer is, for her, a fall from what she considered a higher calling, as Nick sees his vampiric condition as a fall from a higher state.
