You probably know this, of course, but if you have an older DVD player of certain brands, you may be able to turn on the ability to play DVDs of all regions. The major mass-market DVD players are -- or at least used to be -- region-agnostic when manufactured, and only locked down later. Some brands are easier than others to return to those factory settings, or QA settings, under which they can play any regions' discs. Other brands are all but impossible.
(Of course this would void all warranties and such, and could go terribly wrong and make the device unusable. But. FWIW.)
