Subsequent EX raid adventures

I have my Mewtwo! 80% IVs.

The last time that I posted about Pokemon GO, I told you that my first EX raid pass went sadly wrong (see that post), with only 3 trainers and 1 spoofer showing up. Not nearly enough to tackle Mewtwo (though we tried!). This was back when EX raids were still in beta, before Niantic added consolation prizes of premium raid passes and stardust for canceled EX raids. We walked away with nothing but disappointment. I'd simply been unlucky enough to be invited to a "how low can we go?" test.

Since then, I've received 2 — 2! — EX raid passes, including to the surprising Christmas Day raids. These subsequent 2 passes arrived so close together that I got the second before I used the first, and when I attended the first of these 2 EX raids, I caught my Mewtwo on the first ball. These highly unusual circumstances made me suspect that my account could perhaps have been on a "make it up to the player" list after that initial debacle.

My second EX raid (first successful one!) was at a sponsored gym, outside a Sprint store, where I had a bronze medal. More than 50 people were there, though we know they invite no more than 50 players per EX raid, so many were friends and family cheering on players. Everyone seemed excited and happy. We divided by color to maximize balls and rewards; even Instinct (the least populous team) had a sufficient lobby to itself, Mystic (the most populous) 2, and Valor 3! I had a hard time getting there by hatch after work, with traffic and parking, but I made it, and all worked out delightfully.

I'd carefully saved 200 rare candies just for Mewtwo, and this one had 80% IVs. But with a second EX pass already burning a hole in my bag, I held off on feeding this first Mewtwo any candies or stardust. What if the next one had more potential?

My third EX raid was at a park gym, where I have a gold medal, in walking distance of my home. This was the Christmas Day raid. We had a few more than 20 players (20 is the maximum per lobby), so we split into Blue (Mystic) and Orange (Valor + Instinct). We beat Mewtwo together! This Mewtwo then proved harder to catch than my lucky first. After many premier balls, though, getting close to the end, this Mewtwo agreed to join me, too.

My second Mewtwo, however welcome, has unimpressive IVs. So the 200 rare candies went to my first Mewtwo, who is now my most powerful pokemon at 3714 CP (159 HP), with Confusion and Shadow Ball, and who can still be powered up 3 more times.

Now, even powered-up, Mewtwo is far from unstoppable. Type counters and weather boosts matter! But I do love soloing Machamp raid bosses with Mewtwo leading my team. I'm building up to a Gardevoir to join Mewtwo in that mission; beating fighting types with fairies is my favorite. :-D
