I think what could be very interesting is this: Nick and Natalie (and perhaps some others) sit down and listen to Nick tell a story about something that has puzzled him for years; namely, a murder (probably) that took place hundred of years ago, probably in Europe. He lays out the facts of the case and threw talking about it and talking it over, they deduce what happened and who the real killer was.
This would cover the “Cold Case” requirement and the “Do Over”, and just add nick saying that “it’s been one of my dearest desires to figure out what really happened. Voila, all three prompts covered in one story. I think Agatha Christie did this in one of her stories.
I would attempt it, but I don’t have the knowledge of the background history needed, and (sigh) I know I’m not clever enough to plot it out.
