I'm afraid I don't remember the details of the incident inspiring the Disney corollary; I was a bit distant when it happened. I was around during the 1996 lawsuit that led to the rule against unauthorized Real People Fiction, however, and I believe that situation created long-term concern about potential future lawsuits, fears which may underlie some of the later refinements of the crossover rules.
