That is interesting! I can see how Esperanto would be especially vulnerable to overshooting alphabetically, nestled between two such frequently-used languages, and that every overshot would be conspicuous, where vice versa would be lost in the crowd.
I'm pretty sure that I first learned about Esperanto in a PBS documentary, but it's also possible that it was at school. Or the PBS documentary was shown to us at school, hmmm.
