Fanfic year-in-review (2023)

I posted 7 fanfic stories this past year, which is more than I've posted in a single year since 2011. And 4 of them were "just because" stories, not for an event or exchange. I'm feeling very happy with both of those statistics! I hope to do as much or more, as well or better, this year, circumstances permitting.

  • PoGO:
    "No Wish For Such Triumphs"
    G, gen, ~1K words
Candela; with Giovanni, Arlo, Rapidash, Blanche
When Candela defeats Giovanni in a pokémon battle, he rewards her. But his gift is bait in a snare.

  • BSG78:
    "Allow Me To Demonstrate"
    G, gen, ~3K words
    Sheba; with Apollo, Starbuck, Boomer
On one of her first missions with Blue Squadron, Sheba feels she has something to prove.

  • FK:
    "Crack the Code"
    T, gen, ~10K words
Nick; with Janette, Feliks, Natalie, Lacroix, Enforcers, Alma, Schanke
Abducted by Enforcers who want to compel Toronto’s vampire community to participate in a purge called the Census, Nick and his allies fight back.

  • HL:
    "Promises and Promissory Notes"
    G, gen, ~6K words
Duncan & Amanda; with OCs, Methos, Joe
Passing through Gilded Age San Francisco, Duncan runs into Amanda and tries very hard to avoid getting sucked into her latest shady scheme.

  • D&DC:

    • "So the Heart May Become the Eye"
      G, gen, ~6K words
Sheila & Terri; with Bobby, Diana, Hank, Presto, Dungeon Master
After Terri makes it home, Sheila, Bobby, and the others carry on through the Realm with her necklace. When they all meet again, it's not a bit the meeting Terri foresaw — at least, not this time.

    • "Presenting Concerns"
      G, gen, ~1K words
      Eric; with OC
When Eric makes it home from the Realm, his parents send him to therapy.

    • "By Zoom or Skype or Google Meet"
      G, gen, ~2K words
Eric, Diana, Presto, Hank, Sheila, Bobby
Eric rediscovers that in any world gone mad, even this one, they can all always count on each other.

  • Some of the stories I'm personally happiest with from this year include: "Allow Me To Demonstrate" (BSG78) for helping me earn a deeper understanding and appreciation of the Sheba character, and for contributing an angle I feel is rare in the currently available fandom fic. Similarly with "So the Heart May Become the Eye" (D&DC) for the same with the Terri character, plus exploring evergreen unresolved canon questions. And I'm also -- though very differently -- happy with "By Zoom or Skype or Google Meet" (D&DC); this is just a deep-cut long-post-canon id-fic of our heroes all being okay at a dark time, and may, frankly, be unreadable outside that context, but it made me feel okay, too, while I was writing it, and I'm grateful. ♥
