an observation about a popular observation about Echoes of Wisdom

Endgame story spoilers for The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom:

*** SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER ***

I've encountered several folks observing that this, Echoes of Wisdom, is the first time that any of the golden goddesses have ever, in all the series, spoken directly to us, the player character, and that this is neat and has lore implications.

Yes! BUT. Please don't overlook the key:

This is also the first time* that the player character has ever been Zelda. Zelda! Priestess of wisdom. The reincarnation of Hylia herself: firstborn of the golden goddesses, crafter of the Master Sword, selector of the hero of legend, made and left and eternally returning to protect this world.

The golden goddesses may perhaps have spoken directly to Zelda in previous games.

We wouldn't know, because, in those games, we played as Link.

* Not counting the CDI games, side games, or phantom mechanics in Spirit Tracks, I know.
