Forsaken Fandom Awards (Round 2) Posted

The final [livejournal.com profile] forsaken_fandom Awards (Round 2) went up today!  The official List of Winners and Runners-Up is as good as a list of recommendations by consensus, as is the original List of Nominees.  Congratulations to all the Forever Knight winners and nominees!  Thank you so much for writing and sharing.  And congratulations to all the nominators, readers, voters, judges and the project moderators!  No story is complete until it is read.

For brevity, here is a very condensed -- teaser! -- list of winners in selected categories only.  (Please check out the full list.)  By the by, if you're looking to compliment a nominated FK author on her story but she doesn't have an LJ and you don't have her email address, contact me privately; in most cases here, I can share it.

Missing Scene   Damages [livejournal.com profile] tolakasa

Under "own horn, tooting of," as [livejournal.com profile] wiliqueen posted earlier today, y'all were very, very generous to my stories, and recognized "Starwort" (winner, long story), "Steamer Trunk Space" (winner, past; runner-up, missing scene), "A Delicate Balance" (winner, best characterization), and "Last Minutes" (winner, original plot).  Thank you so much!  I am honored.

For those seeking fresh, exciting, new flavors, the winning and runner-up stories that have never yet appeared on fkfic-l include: [livejournal.com profile] greerwatson's, [livejournal.com profile] dknightshade's, [livejournal.com profile] ithildyn's, [livejournal.com profile] havocthecat's and [livejournal.com profile] tv_elf's.  (If anyone wants any advice I can offer on posting to the list, please just speak up!  I'd be happy to see your story there, and many others would, too.)

Again, thank you, all.

Wow, that's awesome. And I can think of worse things than being judged runner-up to you. *wink* Congratulations on your wins!

>"And I can think of worse things than being judged runner-up to you."

Ditto, truly, though it didn't happen to turn out that way this time. I love reading your FK stories.

I'm glad "Carpe Noctem," especially, got some of the recognition it deserves. And I'm glad lots of people had a new opportunity to read some of your other stories, too.

Thanks very much. :) "Carpe Noctem" isn't one of my personal favorite pieces, but it's definitely one of the most canonical that I've written and one of the best-crafted, so I'm very happy with the win. "Eternal Rest" and "Christmastime in the City" are more near and dear to my heart, so the fact that they got runner-up status also pleases me immensely.

By the way, has anyone pointed out that your multiple nominations in several categories may have split the vote of people who particularly enjoy your FK writing style?

As a matter of fact, no... but then, I wouldn't have even known that the judging was complete, if you hadn't posted the link to the community. You really think I was a spoiler for myself? :)

By the way, did you know there are vampires in Blake's 7? *totally innocent grin*

>"You really think I was a spoiler for myself? :)"

I think there is a noteworthy possibility of that, yes.

>"By the way, did you know there are vampires in Blake's 7?"

I seem to have read that somewhere before. :-)

Unfortunately for the purposes of sucking me in, I, um, well, don't actually like vampires all that much. I love historical fiction and philosophical dilemmas and metaphors and mysteries, and I keep finding them bundled in vampire fiction by complete coincidence. :-)

A friend once marathoned a chunk of B7 for me, but it didn't take. Another friend later said that Friend 1 had made a mistake by starting me at the beginning of the series, and that we should have begun somewhere in the middle...

Wow, that takes talent. I must cultivate this strange power... it may come in useful someday...

Unfortunately for the purposes of sucking me in, I, um, well, don't actually like vampires all that much.

I think it's fair enough to say that vampires as a genre have been done past the point of death and that a bloodsucker alone isn't enough inducement to watch/read anything anymore. I wasn't actually trying to convince you to watch B7, just making a general joke. :) The vampires in that universe aren't very interesting on their own, they need a skillful writer's hand (like mine!) to make them pop off the screen.

And Friend 2 is quite right--the good philosophical and moral conundrums don't begin until the 2nd series, and then they pick up speed in the 3rd... And even then, the messages are never very heavy-handed.

I should really post to fkfic, shouldn't I? I...will probably be asking you for advice.

Thank you! :) FK is such fun. I'm glad I'm not the only one who still loves it, flaws and all.

>"I should really post to fkfic, shouldn't I? I...will probably be asking you for advice."

Yes, in my opinion, you should post to the list. :-) Please ask, any time! It's not that different than it used to be; the new post size maximum is in the rules our List Gardener periodically posts.

If I can pull things together, I should probably make some sort of master "Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Posting to FKFic-L Without =20 Appearing at Every Line Break" and "Bonus! How to Make Your Story Wrap Correctly for People Who Use Yahoo Mail" post. :-)

>"I'm glad I'm not the only one who still loves it, flaws and all."

Me, too, very much. Thank you for still playing in it!

Congratulations again! I love all four pieces, and the recognition is well-deserved.

[identity profile] brightknightie.livejournal.com 2008-10-23 03:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you for the compliment! And thank you for reading all of them, and for your beta help and your comments and your encouragement, spread among them. I really appreciate it.

Thanks so much for posting this list and congrats on your all selections.

This was really a lot of fun. There were so many fics that I'd always meant to read but never got around to and a lot of them were in the running. Getting them read was a nice incentive for making an informed decision.

Congratulations on your recognition for "Cutthroat Business," as well! (I feel I should apologize for "Steamer Trunk Space" edging it out, as "Trunk Space" was also in another category.)

I'm so glad that so many excellent stories got to be read by people who may have missed them before! That's more important than the final voting results. I hope some authors feel encouraged to write more. I wish only that the event had been designed to funnel more feedback toward authors. (But then again, perhaps it was, in fandoms that are primarily LJ-based, where comments go easily on the ends of stories, come to think of it. It is only because FK is so little LJ-based that it seems difficult to share comments from here. Ah! I get it now.)
