2025 Summer Seasonsofdrabbles sign-up

For future reference, I thought I'd paste and backdate my 2025 summer [community profile] seasonsofdrabbles requests here:

Wants & general likes: I love good guys being good when it's hard, the power of friendship, self sacrifice, striving, downtime interludes between adventures, tragedies, "whump" with meaning, triumphs, deeper meaning and religious faith appropriate to the character, awareness of canon, history, mystery, and underlying metaphors for real life. Gen is my favorite; canon relationships are very welcome; any non-canon relationships would be nicest as longing, curiosity, or first steps.

DNWs & general dislikes: I'd prefer not to read a story that is NSFW or otherwise beyond PG-13/TV-14/Teen or canon norms (so nothing explicitly brutal, gory, sexual; no kinks, mpreg, omegaverse, excessive bodily fluids; no non-con, dub-con, underage, incest; etc.). I'd also prefer not to read something that is pro-evil, has bigotry go unquestioned, counsels despair, or permanently undermines a character's canonical commitments (like, marriage, religious vocation, honor code).

If you'd like more details, I have a standing "likes & dislikes" post: https://brightknightie.dreamwidth.org/111802.html

Request 1: Dungeons and Dragons (Cartoon)

Sheila, Diana, Hank, Eric, Presto, Bobby, Kareena, Varla, Uni, Dungeon Master

Thank you for writing for me to read! D&DC (1983) is one of my best-beloved lifelong fandoms. I love the depth we got, all unwitting and unintended, from TPTB's order that our heroes must never wield weapons offensively against people, always finding other ways.

Request 2: Battlestar Galactica (1978)

Cassiopeia, Serina, Ila, Starbuck, Apollo, Adama, Boomer, Tigh, Tinia, Boxey | Troy

Thank you for writing for me to read! BSG78 is one of my best-beloved lifelong fandoms. For all the years that I knew it only in syndicated reruns, I imagined that it was at least three seasons long, and I was just unluckily missing all the episodes that surely had to be in there for the world-building to have been so rich.

Request 3: Highlander: The Series

Duncan, Tessa, Richie, Darius, Michelle, Angie

Thank you for writing for me to read! HL's Duncan/Tessa is one of my very few whole-hearted OTPs. The first two seasons are my favorites; I think that's when the metaphor of immortality for real-life survivorship flowers most. (I meant to also nominate Richie, but I'm afraid it didn't go through properly.)

Request 4: Xi You Ji | Journey to the West - Wu Cheng'en

Monkey, Pigsy, Princess Iron Fan, Tripitaka, Sandy, Guanyin, White Dragon Horse

Thank you for writing for me to read! I discovered JttW a few years ago, courtesy of the Overly Sarcastic Productions animatic retelling, which I enjoy tremendously. I then read Julia Lovell's recent abridged version, etc., etc., and am now most of the way through Anthony C. Yu's unabridged four-volume translation. I adore the interplay of comedy and significance, of bonkers folktale hijinks and sophisticated cultural observation. (I sometimes describe it as: Imagine if The Odyssey, Don Quixote, and The Faerie Queene were all the same one book.)

Request 5: The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening

Ulrira, The Owl, Marin

Thank you for writing for me to read! For TLOZ:LA, I'm intrigued by the non-nightmare characters who seem to any extent aware of the dream, and who are cheering Link on, possibly to their own destruction -- or perhaps to their freedom? I do ship Link/Marin.

Request 6: The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom

Shisho, Lefte, Lueburry, Wright, Dohna, Dampé, Condé

Thank you for writing for me to read! TLOZ:EoW was delightful, and I only wish we'd had more story and more side quests. What do any of these NPCs think of their world, each other, or their Zelda and Link?

Request 7: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

Zelda, Midna, Hero's Shade | Hero of Time | Golden Wolf

Thank you for writing for me to read! There's so much to love in TLOZ:TP! Most of all, the various tragedies -- the Hero's Shade | Hero of Time | Golden Wolf having died before he could pass on his knowledge; Zelda at some point losing her whole family, maybe as part of Zant's invasion, which then also seized her kingdom, hurt her people, and imprisoned her; and Midna, so parallel to Zelda, but with the added grief of giving up contact with Link for all their sakes. (I do ship both this Link/Zelda as something for post-canon, and Link/Midna as unfulfilled-longing.)

Request 8: The Legend of Zelda & Related Fandoms

Epona, Hylia, Malon

Thank you for writing for me to read!
