Anyone playing MyOldFandom?

Who all is signing up for myoldfandom? We have through this Thursday, I believe.

Because there's been not a peep on the rarelywritten front so far this year, and because of how the calendars at my workplace are leading me to plan the fkficfest schedule, I've been toying with the idea of playing myoldfandom. I would probably be able to produce only something under 5K words, nothing major, no matter how much I'd like to produce more, because of work, but... the odds are indeed tempting. All my dearest fandoms are so very, very qualified. ;-)

(I'm still sick, btw. This week's FK recap is looking pretty thin.)

Rumor has it that rarelywritten isn't running this year.

I considered it. But I found I disagreed with their definitions of 'no new canon' in so many fields, that I was left certain I would be a bad match for it.

(No slight on the mods or their processes; it just did not appeal once I looked at the tag set. Series owners for Angel and Buffy alike have stated those series' comics are in continuity, yet both shows are considered eligible, to give one example.)

I had noticed that the Buffyverse was allowed in; I hadn't noticed any other oddities. Different familiarities! I'd thought that I'd picked up that the mod intended the guideline to be what each fandom generally considers its genuine canon, not what the creators say... but that may well have been my own wishful thinking.

I am still considering playing, given the news that rarelywritten apparently won't be happening this year. But PJ makes an excellent point about owing other projects.

I haven't decided! There are a ton of shows, movies, etc in the tag set that I remember fondly from my youth (and not-so-youth) but I can't decide whether I can do another ficathon on top of the ones I'm already doing. It's good to know I still have a few days to decide.

Thank you for the good wishes! I'm getting a little better every day, but oh, gracious, this particular virus does linger over its dirty work. :-)

When/if you decide about myoldfandom, share your decision? I'm wavering. I suspect that a concentration of people I know playing would tip me off the fence.

I wish now that I'd also nominated Thundarr the Barbarian. How often would I get the change to do that anywhere? :-D

I asked their moderator if rarelywritten was going to be run this year; and apparently it's not. So, yes: I also plan to sign up for myoldfandom.

I probably shouldn't be eyeing a new game, either, when I haven't completed -- indeed, have barely begun -- my own Fandom Stocking pledges.

Hmm...I suspect if I do anything, it will probably be nightonficmountain. I don't think I can manage more than one at a time and they seem to be running on very similar schedules.

nightonficmountain seems to have some serious typos in its latest post. Stories are due on "Wed 15 Jun," it says, but works will be revealed on "Mon 21 Mar 2016"...? I'm guessing the "Marches" in the post should be "Junes"!

myoldfandom has assignments due June 10, and works revealed June 17, so, yep, very close indeed. (And later than rarelywritten has traditionally been!)

Plus, fkficfest coming somewhen, too. :-) Maybe later August, after all. The Big Work Thing dates haven't stabilized. Maybe in 2017, we can have the FKFicFest stories due in May...
