One Last Nudge

Today, the last day of February, is the last day to sign up for the [livejournal.com profile] femme_fic 2009 ficathon event (I've signed up) or to contribute to [livejournal.com profile] falcon_horus's Fleur Mini-Ficathon (I'll post today).

An exchange-style ficathon can be a great opportunity to ask for a story that you've always wanted to read, but perhaps can't quite manage yourself; perhaps your ficathon match will have just the right background or inspiration to bring it to life!  ([livejournal.com profile] butterflykiki wrote me an outstanding HL story starring Methos and Tessa in that line last year.)  Okay, okay, enough with the nudging... :-)

Oh I kept looking at the [livejournal.com profile] femme_fic requests and while I'm inching more towards participating in an exchange ficathon, I think that this might not be the round. It was tremendously helpful to see the requests though but aside from the possibility of receiving FK or She-Ra (thanks for the heads up on that one, by the way :)) I can't write any of the official fandoms. ::sigh::

It's funny that you should mention that because in all my worrying over whether or not I could fulfill my end of the bargain, I completely forgot to think about what my requests would be, lol. It's a moot point now since I'm not playing but I'll need to give it some thought for the next one.

I sympathize! I scratched my head a long time over which of the official fandoms I could contribute in. I didn't expect FK to make the final cut (though I hoped), but I was surprised that HL did not, and then I was dismayed to realize that none of my own best-beloved fandoms had gotten in. ("Nobody loves my shows! I am so alone!" ~g~) I think I can make a fair contribution in the Buffyverse or Harry Potter, but it would be my first try in either; we shall see.

It's definitely an art! I have learned a lot in the year I've been doing ficathons, but I don't yet know the magic formula. (You want to entice the person's imagination. You want to give enough information. You don't want to scare them off. You don't want to box them in.) Having the prompts all be visible this time is certainly a rich selection of examples to ponder.

I'll look forward to meeting you in an exchange event someday. :-)
