"FK Vids" song playlist titles
This year's
fkficfest prompts are now at 21 nominations by 6 people, including me, with about 2 days to go. Submit yours?
While musing over prompts, I revisited my "Forever Knight Vids" songs playlist, which I hadn't listened to in a very, very long time. It began as a list of all the songs used in all the FK fanvids I'd ever seen and liked. (Gifted by a friend, and then added to from others, back in VHS days, I had one tape with several assorted fanvids dubbed onto it; I will always associate these songs with those vids, and those FK interpretations.) Later, other songs (not related to vids) with specific FK-character associations for me got tacked onto the end of the list, until they made up fully half the total. It's currently on its third music platform since downloads and streaming began.
If you're interested:
If you happen to know these songs, which FK character(s) would you associate them with? (Which would you guess that I would associate them with, if different?)

Will have to look some songs, since I don't know all of them, but quite a few of them sound like they could be about Nick (Self Control, Rebel Son, Holding out for a Hero, Rebel Son,) or Nick and Janette (When I Look at You, Making Love out of Nothing at All, Can't Fight This Feeling).
"She's Like the Wind" sounds very Janette-ish to me. The others... hmmm, will have to think about it.

Yes, "Self Control" and "Rebel Son" are definitely very, very strong Nick associations, and "When I Look at You" is indeed Janette's perspective on Nick today being troublingly both like and unlike the man she used to know long ago.
The "She's Like the Wind" fanvid that I knew was a Nick/Natalie interpretation, about Nick loving Natalie and her not knowing, and him not wanting her to know, because he felt she was much too good for him. "Can't Fight This Feeling" is also a Nick/Nat romantic interpretation, as I know it. And if I remember correctly, "Holding Out For a Hero" is also Nick/Nat, but from Natalie's view -- or perhaps from the perspectives of Natalie, Schanke, and Stonetree, all three.
"Making Love out of Nothing at All" is one of those that didn't belong to a fanvid, but is my own, personal FK association. FK-wise, I hear the song as Lacroix's perspective. Lacroix/Nick, in fact, solely from Lacroix's view. For me, that song is Lacroix winding himself up, speaking about himself, and then, after a long, rising preamble, subsiding to privately marvel, in awe and frustration and confusion, at how Nick does it, recovering from being deeply hurt by each loss to love others again and again, Nick opening himself and putting his heart on the line to care, from nothing to everything, over and over, as Lacroix never does and never would and never could, and has told and tried to force Nick not to do... yet Nick does. Most of the song is the singer bragging about his own power, but the refrain is the singer humbled.

Whew, that was a good shot of nostalgia.

I never saw one set to Mariah Carey's "Hero." I'll go listen to the song and find out what I can imagine for it. :-)
I was very, very lucky to have gotten to see as many VHS-era fanvids as I did. Most of those I saw were made with first-season episode footage only, probably first made during the long hiatus between first and second season. Most of them would be totally unacceptable quality by today's standards, but I enjoyed them hugely and found them very thoughtfully conveying their themes.

I absolutely loved them. Did you ever see the one that was the theme/intro song to "Cheers," but it was about the Raven?
It was very amusing to see a sitcom theme used with FK. Funny enough, if I could ever see one of those old VHS fan vids again, it would be that one.

I think the one I would most enjoy seeing again, if I could see only one, is "You Love the Thunder," but a close second is "When I Look at You," which was perhaps not as well edited with as good footage as the vidder would have liked, but was brilliantly interpreted. Both, coincidentally, were Immortal Beloved vids, one Nick about Janette, and the other Janette about Nick.

As a child, before I had any other way to "own" or even revisit a show, I had a spiral notebook in which I wrote down the title of each episode of whatever my favorite show was at the time as it aired (starting with Robotech, iirc). Happily, I deployed the approach to the fanvids, too. :-)

From your list, the songs that are pinging for me (other than the ones I already mentioned) are:
- "Self Control"
- "Badlands"
- "Only the Good Die Young" (and I am recalling many flashes to the Joan of Arc episode, may have been Nick getting the bite on a lot of people over the years?)
- "You Love the Thunder"
- "Livin' on the Edge of the Night"
My recall is super hazy though on what they were about and there may have been more. Most about Nick? One might have been about all three vamps? It was just so long ago. Wish I'd written something down!

"If There Hadn't Been You" is a friendship vid -- Nick, Schanke, Natalie.
I never saw a VHS fanvid, that I can recall, that focused on the vampire characters (other than Nick and Nick/Janette). Surely they were out there, but either my friends didn't have them, or they didn't share them with me, knowing that I'm so good-guy-centric. :-)
Correction: The "Terminus Est" vid is a Lacroix vid. Oh, yes, very much! Brrr.

I'd have loved that friendship vid!
I'd never heard "Terminus Est" and just gave it a listen. Damn, that is fitting.

FWIW, Forever Knight, like Highlander, is a genre drama TV series filmed in Canada that premiered in 1992. It's a police procedural; the twist is that the homicide detective lead is also a 400-year-old vampire who wants to regain his humanity.
