MyOldFandom sign-ups extended
The mod for
myoldfandom has extended sign-ups until noon on Monday, March 28 (because Easter Triduum observances might interfere with sign-ups for some).
At this time, I see few requests that I could fill, myself: a D&DC request for a no name, no lines, spear-bearer character (sadly, no other options); an HL request that seems to have listed Duncan/Tessa by mistake (the details specify that the requester wants only slash or gen); HL's Richie or Cierdwyn for ArgentumLS (I don't dare offer Duncan or Darius; the requests show that people want what I can't give); and maybe, if I stretch hard, the Tron (1982) request.
I'm still considering playing. But I'm a bit concerned.
I'm starting to think that I should instead see whether people might be up for some sort of mini events. For example, "If Malinaldarose will write me BSG78, I'll write her... something she wants." ;-) Okay, so that's where it always breaks down, at every scale, finding people who can write what the others want to read. I should probably follow PJ's lead...

Sequel and sequel cartoon well within the last ten years on that one.
I wish you well in finding a project of interest, or a good match if you do sign up!

Oh well. Don't think I have the time to be bothered.

Incidentally, I'm not matchable yet, either as writer or recipient.

I hadn't thought of that! So it's possible to just delete a sign-up, without involving the mod? Is that considered an okay thing to do?
(If you know you're not yet matchable as a recipient, you must be seeing the offers somewhere. Are you thinking of the sign-up summary, or can you see them in more detail somewhere?)

I can't see any offer info beyond the numbers. However, I know what I requested and offered, so I know that right now the only fandom I could match on is HL. Since I do a lot of exchanges, I'm familiar with a lot of the other players' preferences. None of the other players are likely to be offering Richie or Ceirdwyn, and I figure both my Methos pairings are obscure enough that no one is offering them. So, I guess I'm not *certain* about matchability, so much as reasonably confident in the odds.
Re: the person requesting Duncan/Tessa: it occurred to me that there might be a definitional conflict. You think the request is an accident because their other requests are for gen or slash stories. I wonder if they're treating "gen" as a category that includes non-explicit stories about pairings. That's how I learned the term, and it's a definition I still catch myself using.

After specifying "Joe/Methos slash" and other things in the details, the requester wrapped up, without otherwise mentioning Tessa: "or any combination of the individuals in Gen." There's no letter linked for context. ~shrug~
You're right that it may be a definitional conflict! In the '90s, I first learned "gen" as meaning "everything except erotica" (regardless of het or slash; and we didn't yet use the term "het"!). That may have been an FK-specific experience: the FKFic-L email list and FTP archive for what was then called "gen," on the one hand, and the JADFE group for erotica, on the other.
:-) It's been a looooong time since I've bumped into that definition, though. :-)

No, not just "again". Again again. This would be about the fifth time, I think, that I've matched with her in one exchange or another. Not that we don't share a lot of fandoms. (Obviously.) But it gets a bit ridiculous after a while.

I still haven't decided for sure about playing this game.
Among other things, PJ has a point! I owe a lot of Fandom Stocking "gift certificate" fulfillments.

I'd like to see this succeed! But I'm increasingly skeptical of it. I think that the choice to allow matching by groups and ships isn't working for it. And I think that the mod didn't advertise it widely, and so it isn't attracting as many players as it might have.

The advertising, though, I think was the problem. I only saw the exchange advertised in two places, and one I had to go searching for. There was nothing on tumblr. My own posts about it pulled a few people in. I wonder how many more would have come in with some dedicated recruitment.

More specific matches are indeed nicer, when they work! In the particular fandoms I was looking at when I posted that remark on Saturday, the groups seemed to be posing an obstacle to matching.
All but four people did get successfully matched, in the end, so I was probably needlessly concerned.
>"I only saw the exchange advertised in two places..."
I saw only one, myself. Before nominations opened, I gave the mod a list of DW & LJ communities that I thought would be good for promoting this event; she didn't choose to use it. ~shrug~
And even up above in this thread, one of the people on my f-list -- right here! -- says that she didn't hear about the event until I made this particular post. (I'd mentioned it before, but not enough for her to notice.)

I saw your list and thought it looked really good! I can only imagine she either thought that what she was doing was enough, or she wanted to keep the first round small to see how the event went out of the gate.

Likewise. I posted a couple times on tumblr, and people who I know follow me and read my page didn't see the post until I spoke to them directly.

There seems to be at least one person other than my sister for whom I can write. :)

I'd like this event to succeed. But I'm very skeptical of its choice to allow relationships and groups, instead of characters only, for matching. People don't seem to share understandings on this. And there's not only almost no one in any of my fandoms, the few there are have extremely picky, constrained, specific requests.

BSG78, if you feel like it! (If not, no harm, no foul.) FK, always...
:-) I know you're not into D&DC or YB, or you would have mentioned them by now. :-)

(Although I do have my own favorites: Cassiopeia, Serina, Boomer, Starbuck/Cassiopeia... Apollo's relationships with his siblings... curiosity about Rigel, Tinia, other background characters...)
