For the month of June, in Forever Knight, in my corners of social journaling, here are the items that I spotted:

Ficathons, Fests and Communities

• fkficfest/fkficfest exchange matches went out on 6/08 at two minutes to midnight! Stories come due in the A03 on 8/09 and begin releasing on 8/11. This month, there will be a "post parade" of this year's players, with links to their past stories (written and received)!
• fancake, a multifandom theme rec community, is holding an "urban fantasy" round. FK is eminently eligible!
• rarecharacters/rarecharacters, a multifandom exchange, holds nominations through 7/15.
• Signal boosting from havocthecat: metanews is in danger of closing unless they gain more mods. Can you help?
• As always, the recommendation communities fanart_recs, fancake, bestthingever and het_reccers could use reccing volunteers.
• Addendum per skieswideopen: genficexchange/genficexchange, a multifandom gen fic exchange game, has open nominations through 7/12.

Meta (Discussion, Essays, Actor Updates, Etc.)

• 6/06: greerwatson discussed her design for displaying her latest FK fanfic on her website.
• 6/13: wiliqueen observed that Anaïs Delva, an actress/singer in that Frozen "Let it Go" multi-language video, reminds her of Deborah Duchene.
• 6/22: pj1228 noted that Nigel Bennett appears in season 5, episode 5 of Rookie Blue and shares a scene with Ben Bass (who is a regular on that show, of course).
• 6/24: pj1228 observed that Nigel Bennett briefly appeared again in season 5, episode 6 of Rookie Blue.
• 6/25: pj1228 reviewed the play The Last Confession (Royal Alexandra Theatre, Toronto), in which Nigel Bennett is performing.
• Addendum: 5/17: skieswideopen, in iconitis, entered 8 FK userpic icons in a "first fandom" challenge.

"Motive" starring Kristin Lehman

By now, I'm sure that everyone else knows that Kristin Lehman has starred in Motive (CTV in Canada, ABC in the US) for two 13-episode seasons now. I didn't know until Amazon recommended it to me a few months ago; I just don't see remotely as much TV as I used to!

I watched an episode for the first time last night, and the series seems to be a high-quality police procedural somewhat in the style of The Closer and the structure of Colombo. The focus is almost entirely on the case, with allusions to the characters' personal lives only where they intersect with the work. Lehman and Louis Ferreira, who plays her character's partner, did good work with the script that I happened to see. Lauren Holly plays the ME.

Because of 1996 SD Urs in my imagination, seeing 2014 HD Lehman gives a little "time!" jolt, but her character here is so utterly different from Urs, and her acting as always skilled, that soon there's no perceived resemblance at all. Similarly, I recognized Holly's voice long before I could place her face; I haven't seen her on my screen since NCIS, and her character here seems wholly unlike Jenny Shepard.

As a taste of the show, the episode told me to treat this series something like a cross between The Closer and the L&O smorgasbord. If you tune into those, tune into this.
