[community profile] saturdaymorningex, the exchange for animated fandoms, has released its stories! They have 15 works in 14 fandoms. Check out the collection.

I wanted to participate in [community profile] saturdaymorningex, but no one requested any of the fandoms I offered. It looks like many of last year's participants decided to do the new event [community profile] earlybirdgetstheword, a small fandoms exchange, instead. The dates overlapped closely; I must not have been the only one who felt she could sign up for only one of the two. [community profile] earlybirdgetstheword is currently waiting on pinch hitters before releasing its stories.

It looks increasingly like [community profile] everywoman, the exchange for female characters, won't happen this year. I've enjoyed this event -- and its respected line of predecessors! -- for many years now. I'll be sorry to lose it. For me, this means no known fic exchanges to look forward to participating in until [community profile] hlh_shortcuts at the end of the year. If you happen to know of an event that might suit me, please bring it to my attention. Thank you!

The [community profile] everywoman '24 authors are now revealed! See the collection.

As mentioned, my request went up as a pinch-hit and I received both a gift and a treat for Dungeons & Dragons (cartoon, 1983): "Girl Time" (T, gen, ~700 words; Sheila & Diana) and "The Acrobat's Dream" (T, gen, 100 words; Diana). Both, it turns out, are by [archiveofourown.org profile] DesertVixen, whose assignment in the event was The Man From U.N.C.L.E. (2015): "The Last Night (Before The Rest of Her Life)" (T, gen, ~500 words; stars Gaby).

Here are a few other stories that I enjoyed in the event:
The story that I wrote was "Beyond Illusion" (Dungeons & Dragons (cartoon, 1983); G, gen, ~4K words; Varla & Presto), for [archiveofourown.org profile] DesertVixen's request for “more about Varla exploring/learning about her power.” The piece is a tag/sequel to Varla's one episode, "The Last Illusion;" the day after the day Varla escaped Venger's Forbidden Tower, as she shows Presto around her village, she examines her powers and her options, ultimately choosing a third way that's canon-compliant and yet opens up her future beyond canon.

[community profile] everywoman has a "post-reveals pinch hit:" Read their post with the request. They're asking for a fill ASAP (500 words), to be given as a treat in the collection, as there is no assignment to claim.

The fandoms are assorted Star Wars (Prequel Trilogy, Sequel Trilogy, The Clone Wars, Rogue One, Solo, Andor, and Mandalorian) and Marvel (MCU, Moon Knight, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.). The recipient seems to be totally up for romance tropes and fluff.

(A post-reveals pinch-hit is odd... In this case, it looks like the intended fill was fanart, and from a comment, the img tag link to the fanart isn't (or wasn't) working for all viewers, perhaps including the recipient and the mods. I can see it, though.)

Updated, Sunday evening: The pinch hit has been filled! Also, it seems that the problem was that some (but not all) antivirus software blocked the image hosting site.

The [community profile] everywoman '24 stories have released! The exchange has 69 total works in 56 fandoms. Check out the collection sorted by fandom or in the complete works list.

Fandoms include Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Captain Marvel & The Marvels, Dungeons & Dragons (Cartoon, 1983), Hawkeye, Labyrinth, The Lord of the Rings, 6 kinds of Star Trek, 3 kinds of Star Wars, and Stargate SG-1.

I personally received both an exchange story and a treat!
  • "Girl Time" (D&DC, T, gen, ~700 words). This vignette gives Sheila and Diana a quiet, restful interlude between episodes, an opportunity to relax from the often frantic pace of their adventures and reflect on the actual weight and emotional wear of those adventures. It's full of canonical allusions, yet with an undemanding touch that doesn't require a reader to know the references. Thought-provoking!

  • "The Acrobat's Dream" (D&DC, T, gen, 100 words). This drabble shows Diana triumphant, solo and as a teammate, her hard work and talent fulfilled, both on the Olympic podium and by having made it home from the Realm. Satisfying!

Of course there is a story by me somewhere in the mix. Author reveals are scheduled for this coming Friday, August 9.

Many thanks to whomever picked up my request as a pinch hit in [community profile] everywoman; I will enjoy whatever you have in mind!

There's still one unclaimed post-deadline pinch-hit over there (see the claiming post): The Walking Dead (TV), The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (TV 2022), The Witcher (TV), Westworld (TV), Yellowjackets (TV), Bunny - Mona Awad, Crossover Groups, The 100 (TV), Sex Education (TV), The Last of Us (TV). If you know folks in those fandoms, pass it on?

The release is this Friday, August 2.

Tuesday: That last pinch-hit has now been claimed. Great!

If you know someone active in any of these fandoms, pass it on?

[community profile] everywoman, the annual exchange celebrating female characters, closes sign-ups on Saturday, June 22, at 11:59pm (23:59) Pacific Time. See the current sign-ups summary on the AO3.

Stories come due on Friday, July 26, to be revealed on Friday, August 2. So participants have almost precisely one month to write (minimum 500 words).

FWIW, this year, I personally signed up with requests for: Expand7 fandoms )

And with offers for: Expand4 fandoms )

I probably overdid my "Dear Author" letter again. ;-) Check out my letter.

Dear Everywoman Author:

Hi! Thank you for sharing these fandoms and loving their female characters! I’m sure that whatever you most want to celebrate and explore in these characters and their worlds will make a lovely story. If you’d like more story thoughts from me, read on.

Thank you so much!

The [community profile] everywoman nominations will close on Sunday, June 9.

They have not yet approved all nominations submitted so far. For example, they have approved my Battlestar Galactica (TV, 1978) and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (movie, 2022) nominations, but they have not yet approved my Highlander (TV, 1992-1997), Dungeons & Dragons (cartoon, 1983), or Journey to the West (literature, 1592) nominations.

This year, nominations may be 10 fandoms with 10 characters or groups each. I'm wondering whether I should nominate more. I admit that I may be a little FKed out for the moment as a writer, unless I coincidentally click with a particularly compelling request, but should I nominate FK there for others to write? Similarly, I'm not sure I dare offer Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, but I'd sure like to read about Lunella's grandmother, Mimi. I feel I'm "falling down on the job" a little, not filling my nomination slots. Maybe I add more literature? More cartoons? Comics? Pokemon GO? Zelda?

To my surprise -- though it should not have been as these are exactly the same dates as last year -- [community profile] everywoman, the annual fanfic exchange for stories starring women characters, popped up on Saturday evening at full speed:
  • Nominations: June 1 (yesterday) - June 9 (one week from today)
  • Sign-ups: June 10 - June 21
  • Assignments out: June 23
  • Assignments due: July 25
  • Works revealed: August 1
  • Authors revealed: August 8
Folks may nominate up to 10 fandoms, with up to 10 characters or groups each. To facilitate matching, nominated groups are specifically denoted "and" (not "&" or "/"); the requirement is that a story include both characters, and it's up to the writer, with due respect to the requester, how.

As you may remember, [community profile] everywoman is a spiritual successor to now-defunct exchange games like Femme_fic and Rarewomen > Rarelywritten. Its definition of "female characters" is very generously broad, but there are limits, so check the rules if you have an extreme edge case.

Addendum: I've now nominated D&DC, HL, and JttW to help seed the tagset. I'll add more later.
