[community profile] 90s_channel_tv_exchange released at a delay and on a weekday this past week, and so may have fallen under the radar for many readers. They have 41 works in 28 fandoms. Review the works by fandom on the AO3.

There were no FK stories, and BSG78 and D&DC weren't eligible, obviously, but I personally chose to read stories from:
  • HL (pre-canon and then a much later-set tag; how Joe and Methos meet)
  • HL/E:FC (second-season E:FC; how Liam and Methos meet)
  • P&P (post-canon AU epistolary; Lizzie writes Georgiana with keen advice for optimal approaches to Collins, Mary and others)
  • QL (pre-canon, the original timeline; how Sam learns about Beth from Al)
  • XF (fourth season; Mulder and Scully in a little downtime on a case on the road)
These 5 are all gen and friendship-oriented. I enjoyed them all in their different ways! And I got to beta-read the HL one. Check it out. :-)

Today, Friday, February 10, is the last day to answer [community profile] fkficfest's 2023 pre-game poll. (Well, you know I won't actually close it until sometime Saturday morning in my time zone, but why cut it that close?) Check out the poll.

Separately, coincidentally, it's also the last day to sign up for [community profile] 90s_channel_tv_exchange. Visit their sign-ups post and sign-ups summary. At this moment, which is still early in the day, it looks like no one has requested or offered FK or AtS, while 1 has requested and 3 have offered HL. I was leaning to only reading or pinch-hitting instead of signing up, anyway, for several reasons. One is that there are so many fondly-remembered shows here for me, but so few well-remembered-enough to write without full-scale canon review, and most of these shows lasted many, many years. Possibly, '90s movies and TV should have been in the same one exchange together? Or for TV only, '80s-'90s or '90s-'00s? We'll see how it goes!

(I feel especially for the person with the lone ReBoot (Cartoon) request, because I've been meaning to watch that award-winning cartoon and expecting to appreciate it; if only I'd gotten around to it before. Similarly, the Zorro (TV 1990) request/offer: I didn't realize until nominations here that this show had aired in North America or even in English.)

[community profile] 90s_channel_tv_exchange sign-ups have opened earlier than expected. They close on Friday, February 10. Stories come due on Sunday, May 21. For myself, I still haven't decided whether to play, but am leaning toward not signing up and watching the pinch-hits instead. I will surely read widely in this fest and can help beta.

The instructions again say: "Requests are 3-10 fandoms with 1-10 character tags" while "Offers are 3-10 offers and 1-10 relationship field tags." This still confuses me; my brain is relentlessly literal with instructions. But I understand from you all now what it should actually say is: Requests and offers alike are 3-10 fandoms with 1-10 relationship-field tags; solo characters appear in the relationship-field tags with the prefix "Solo."
Of interest in the final tag set )

What are you thinking about this new fest? What will be fun for you?

I still haven't yet decided about [community profile] 90s_channel_tv_exchange for myself. I'm leaning toward not signing up, and instead watching the pinch hits in case I can help. I did draw up a list of nominations I could make from those missing in their current tag set, if I now understand nominations correctly, and if it's okay to nominate when I may well not play. List of nominations I could make )

Separately, I drafted the 2023 [community profile] fkficfest survey and will try to post it on Monday. I'd planned to wait another week, but the emergence of the new fest makes me feel I've fallen behind. We shall see!

Thank you, everyone, for explaining the nominations and matching for [community profile] 90s_channel_tv_exchange! I've played only a couple of AO3-matched games (never Yuletide) and was confused.

I'm thinking about what the [community profile] 90s_channel_tv_exchange timeline and participation means for [community profile] fkficfest. As the new fest is due May 21, should we come due in mid to late April? Early May? Mid-to-late June? Or will overlap with the new exchange fest just use up everyone's time, energy, and interest for the year? (Easter is April 9, and Passover April 5-13, this year.) I'll get the survey up soon.

I'm pondering whether to sign up for the new exchange myself. Peruse their tagset so far. Obviously, FK and HL. (Some of the FK noms so far remind me of the risks of exchanges in dearly opinionated fandoms. I just don't do pro-evil or pro-vampirism.) Beyond them, many to read, few to write? Long ramble through my own options )

I just learned from [personal profile] senmut's post that there is a [community profile] 90s_channel_tv_exchange! It looks like perhaps the latest successor to [community profile] myoldfandom and [community profile] retrotvexchange...?

Here's how [community profile] 90s_channel_tv_exchange describes itself:

Timeline:
  • Nominations: 25 Jan - 01 Feb
  • Sign-ups: 03 Feb - 10 Feb
  • Due: 21 May
  • Reveals: 28 May
Requirements:
  • Minimum 1K words or equivalent art
  • Live-action or cartoon fiction TV series that aired at least 1 new episode in any country in the '90s, or were dubbed into English for the first time in the '90s
  • Matching is "or" on one medium (art or fic), one fandom, and one relationship field tag
  • Nominate 1-4 fandoms and 1-5 single characters or relationship groups per fandom
  • "You may request the same fandom multiple times, but a gift is guaranteed only if your requests and offers each have 3 unique fandoms." See the rules for anthology shows and crossovers.
  • "Requests are 3-10 fandoms with 1-10 character tags, and Offers are 4-10 offers and 1-10 relationship field tags."

I don't understand this "relationship field tags" system and feel like I'd end up assigned a romance that I can't write, so I'm thinking I won't play, but I will look at the nominations and consider!

Some eligible series: FK, HL, BaTB, TNG, DS9, VOY, XF, BtVS, AtS, QL, E:FC, SG1, DS, Doctor Quinn: Medicine Woman, Sailor Moon, Babylon 5, Farscape, Lois and Clark, Gargoyles, Darkwing Duck, Pinky and the Brain, Batman Beyond, ReBoot and many more...
