The Stratford Festival is doing something amazing. Online. Where we can all enjoy it. [personal profile] leela_cat brought it to my attention. There's now a banner on their site, an announcement on Facebook, and news pick-up (including this CTV article).

Stratford is giving us all a free season online, streaming 12 previously-filmed Shakespeare performances! April 23 through July 30, 2020.

Each play was originally filmed during a single live performance in front of a full audience. In this event, each will premiere with a 7:00 p.m. (Eastern Time) "viewing party" and will then continue to be available, free, for 3 weeks afterwards.

Schedule:
  • King Lear: April 23 to May 14
  • Coriolanus: April 30 to May 21
  • Macbeth: May 7 to 28
  • The Tempest: May 14 to June 4
  • Timon of Athens: May 21 to June 11
  • Love’s Labour’s Lost: May 28 to June 18
  • Hamlet: June 4 to 25
  • King John: June 11 to July 2
  • Pericles: June 18 to July 9
  • Antony and Cleopatra: June 25 to July 16
  • Romeo and Juliet: July 2 to 23
  • The Taming of the Shrew: July 9 to 30
FK fans may be specifically interested that Geraint Wyn Davies is in some of these (Antony and Cleopatra, off the top of my head). But these are all full of amazing, astonishing work by many superlative actors and other theater professionals.

These will definitely be a bright star across my summer this year!
