brightknightie: Methos and Duncan outside in the snow. (Other Fandom HL Methos)
I re-read "The Beginning of Always" by [personal profile] hafital (M, 11K words) last weekend at the holiday, and then parts of it again this weekend for comfort, because it was still on my mind as comforting. I think that it is my all-time-favorite Duncan/Methos story.

Several K-immies lose their heads and there is trauma to go around. There is also grace and great gentleness. Identity. Forgiveness. Grief. Mutuality. Patience. Longing. Choice. Strong, firm anchors to the Tessa and Richie era, even though it's set post-series. You know — lots of the stuff I like. (No flashbacks, but you can't have everything in every story.) Roles for Joe and Amanda.

This is not everyone's universal usual interpretation of the Methos character; this version has doubts bone deep, and some prefer confidence sky high. But its power within its own interpretation seems undeniable to me. And comforting. And graced.

So I thought I'd share. ♥
