I keep looking longingly at the new [community profile] blackisbeautifulex fanfic exchange fest for Black characters.

I don't think that I, personally, should promise to produce a story in less than a month (assignments sent on January 31, due on February 21). But I do so love some too-neglected characters who qualify for this fest, and the sign-up requirements are so light! "You must offer at least 3 fandoms with 1 [qualifying] character."
  • D&DC: Diana
  • BSG78: Boomer
  • HL: Charlie, Carl
  • FK: Grace, Reese, Bridgette (I'm not counting the 2 otherwise-qualifying unnamed recurring characters, the nurse at Mercy Hospital in first season and the Raven employee in second season)
  • Pokemon GO: Candela, Cliff
  • Pokemon Black & White: Iris, Lenora

(Unfortunately, YB has no qualifying characters, although, perhaps curiously, the original series story bible called for Siroc to be a formerly enslaved person. Obviously, that didn't make it into canon. But it may explain why, of them all, only Siroc has not a single dialogue reference to his personal background, as if they simply dropped the subject instead of rewriting it.)

'21 Snowflake #1 : Introduction

This is my fandom journal. You'll rarely find non-fannish posts here.

To this day, most posts here are about Forever Knight. Now, I do enjoy other things as much at this point! Gracious. Even my beloved first-season FK, I rarely rewatch. And yet: so much FK here. Because of the inertia of decades, because I moderate [community profile] fkficfest, and because most of you know me from FK, which was my first online fandom, and ever my deepest and dearest fandom, so naturally we still connect over that shared story universe and fannish experience.

Besides FK, you'll sometimes see me post here about Highlander, Young Blades, Dungeons & Dragons (the '80s cartoon!), Battlestar Galactica (the original), and Pokemon GO (Level 43). I almost never post about any of the rest, like Masterpiece PBS/BBC shows, Bujold's "The World of the Five Gods," or even OUaT or DPS. If you're interested, I do mention further fandoms in my standing likes/dislikes post from the days I participated in a lot more fests. But most things that I watch and read, I never bring up here at all, a few because I got bitten and learned to stay away from those fandoms, but most only because they pass through lightly without needing what fandom supplies.

Three example musings on other fandoms/IPs that I rarely mention here: ExpandRead more... )

[community profile] hlh_shortcuts released the first three stories from its 2020 AO3 collection on New Year's Day night. That leaves us fourteen to go! Traditionally, the stories all release anonymously, a few at a time, and then there's a guessing game before the authors are revealed.

One of the first three stories released happened to have been written for my sign-up: "between a spark and lightning" (Teen, gen, 4K words; Michelle/OMC, Cierdwyn; warning for violence).

When I commented on it, the author replied that she'd found my sign-up "definitely a challenge." But she persevered and generously invented a future for Michelle ("Rite of Passage"), my favorite one-shot guest star, and coincidentally echoed my own head-canon (other people's, too?) that Cierdwyn ("Take Back the Night") was Michelle's second teacher, able to give Michelle an important dose of focused tough love that Amanda was not.
