brightknightie: Sun Wukong, the Monkey King, floating on a cloud, as drawn by Red of Overly Sarcastic Productions (Other Fandom OSP JttW)
In this week's episode of the Overly Sarcastic Podcast,* our hosts played with the fact that the irresistible songs of the Sirens of Greek mythology can lure people to their dooms with any temptation (not only lust, as commonly mis-depicted). In the case of Odysseus, western lit's original archetypal smart guy, it was specifically the promise of knowledge.

So, they asked themselves, what irresistible temptation would each of them hear in the Sirens' song? There was much joking about freshly-baked bread! And one joke each about the cask of amontillado and isekai portals. Then inspiration hit, and Red put these lyrics in the Sirens' mouths:
"We've got seven new seasons of that show you liked that got canceled before its time and started sucking in season four! We've started from exactly the point that you think it was last good!"

"That would get me in a heartbeat," Red said. Give or take the exact number of the season in which the suckiness began, I suspect that would get many of us. ;-)

* The OSPod is available on all fine podcast platforms. If you haven't yet met the fantastic, delightful Overly Sarcastic Productions, though, start with their YouTube Channel. Let me know if you want recs! One new episode per week on Fridays, alternating between Red's (mythology, literature, media) and Blue's (history, architecture, gaming). Together, they are all joy and goodness.
